Rosalina Morales was born in Cleveland, Ohio in January of 1986.
Her artistic and creative abilities began to develop at a very young age. Her eye for capturing the natural phenomena of everyday life impressed her art teachers and peers at an early age. To many, the talent and radiance Rosalina displayed in her early work was truly
thought-provoking. Her paintings and illustrations were becoming interpretations of life events, and not just simple portraits. At the age of 15, she received her first commissioned assignment, which was to contribute to a group mural at her former elementary
school. In 2005, another such commission followed. She again took part in a group mural for Olmsted Falls High School. Her work throughout high school was commended for its progression and vision.
As her work continued to grow as an adult, Rosalina found herself immersed in expressionism. She exploded her own sense of creativity to find new innovation. She found inspiration and a wealth of knowledge in studying art history and also in the admiration of her mentors and influences. Though self taught, Rosalina willfully employs the techniques and methods of the classically trained. Influences such as Frida Khalo, Diego Rivera, Norman Rockwell, and Vincent Van Gogh have inspired Rosalina with the imagination to dream just as vividly. But if not for her beloved Hispanic culture, she would lack the color and feel for which to create; her sense of pride and duty stems from her Puerto Rican roots.
Rosalina has explored and has become quite proficient with several mediums including pencils, watercolors, and oils, thus creating a very profound range of work. She has also explored contemporary themes by using collages to express her personal ideas and criticisms, even displaying political satire from time to time. Her acrylic work is perhaps her most known and celebrated medium. Rosalina uses color combinations that provoke introspection, wonder, and intrigue. This is shown in the combination of colors used within a simple vase, the lavender tint in a creased dress, or maybe a shade of blue in a face. This highlights and even intensifies the appearance of the subjects throughout her work. The subjects which would be normal portraits and paintings become familiar images in time, bringing a sense of comfort to the viewer.
Currently, Rosalina is working towards earning a Bachelor degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Kent State University. While still pursuing her dream of becoming a well known and respected Hispanic artist.
